Sousa wrote this in 1886 while the leader of the United States Marine Band as a tribute to journalist Charles B. Towle. It was Sousa's first successful march and sold over a million copies. Not too difficult and expertly edited with rehearsal and performance notes by Sousa scholar Loras John Schissel. Exclusively endorsed by John Philip Sousa IV.
