Elliott Carter, one of America's great composers, composed this short flute solo in 1991 for his friend, flutist Robert Aitken. It takes its title from a sonnet by Francesco Petrach describing a dream state. Scrivo in Vento (Writing in the the wind) uses the flute to present contrasting musical ideas and registers to suggest the paradoxical nature of the poem. AMEB AMUSA level.
