Grade 4 - "Progression" has a constantly changing time signature, and much of the music features contrary motion between the upper and lower voices. In a modified sonata form, the two themes (one driving and intense, the second lyric) get contrapuntal development and a recapitulation at measure 82. Violin 1 goes to fifth position, Violin 2 and Viola to third, Cello and Bass to fourth. This contest-worthy piece will be fun for your orchestra because of the rhythmic challenges and active parts for all.
