Histoires is a suite of 10 pieces for piano, impressionistic in style and exhibiting the stylistic influence of Debussy. This edition contains the eighth movement of Stories, La Cage De Cristal. Ibert later wrote of his Histoires.. These are stories I have written not for children, but for adults who are still children. Each one has been suggested, either by a reading, or by a memory of a trip, or by an image or a story..The perhaps in a dream. It is about a little princess who is shut away in a glass cage by a nasty fairy. She is sad, because every day her prince charming comes to look at her, but she is not able to speak to him, or kiss him. And it will remain this way for twenty-five years, from the date on which I composed this piece. The princess and the prince charming have unfortunately grown oldand the music too!
