Composed for the BIBF's One Minute Wonders project in 2006, these four short pieces are in a modern but lyrical idiom offering musical and technical challenges for the intermediate bassist. The accompaniments are effective, in a simple and understated way. No piece outstays its welcome and they can be performed singly or as a suite. A range of impressionist colours and textures are used to great effect. Frank Bayford has composed a number of works for double bass in recent years and writes in a modern but accessible style with a clarity of line and texture always to the fore.
