Inspired by the music of a ghost show his wife was watching on TV composer Moore borrowed a fragment of the chord progression he heard coming out of his living room and used it the basis to create this composition. Techniques that give the work interest and vitality include inversion retrograde counterpoint and harmonic pan-diatonicism reminiscent of Stravinsky. And yes the title refers to caskets so this very original work would be a perfectly ghoulish addition to a Halloween concert.
